Episode 4, GMOs & Childhood

Here at Honestly, we're keeping it rolling with our fourth episode. It's hard to believe we're already in our fourth week, and we, of course, would like to thank everyone who has been tuning in to listen to us. We hope that you will share our podcast with your friends and comment in often, either here or on our FaceBook page.

This week, we are talking about Genetically Modified Foods and childhood.

Should we be allowed to modify foods at the genetic level? Should we be worried, or it all a lot of worry for nothing? Where do you think we'll fall on the issue? Listen in to find out! Then, we take on childhood...from expecting children to sit in a classroom for eight hours a day to extending the age of adulthood, what does it mean to be a child in 2015?

Both topics are loaded, and there are bound to be all sorts of feelings. We wanna hear yours.

  1. Roundup.....Round up is a scary herbicide that is injected into each and every seed. They first infect the seed with e coli that will begin to break the walls down of the cells. They then inject the round up into the seeds and then inject it with an antibiotic. The antibiotic heals the cell allowing the walls to close around the roundup! Boom, now it is resistant. Scares the hell out of me. Also another thing that should be touched on is the not only labeling packaged foods that are genetically modified, but also labeling fruits and veggies that have been modified . As a mother of a child with life threatening allergies I am a label reader to the core. They are genetically modified bananas so they do not ripen as quick. Great whatever. Well they are modifying them with elements of shellfish, causing children to go into anaphylaxis. Pretty scary shit. I live on the island of kauai. Here on this island we are at ground zero with the whole GMO companies. there are fields and fields of GMO crops. It is scary and these companies are not transparent at all! I could go on and on. Great Pod.

  2. This is great detail you talk about Stacey!! So scary and especially with your child's allergy. I am very discerning about labels, and I feel that we have gone to the proverbial dark side when it comes to our food supply. Though I also believe it's salvagable (if we want it.) Being in Delaware (and living on a farm) I am sure they are planting GMO crops here as well.... It's very scary to think about the far reaching repercussions.
